our story

Best Regards Cookies, glass

Welcome to my world of sweet treats.  I have no professional training, I am not a french pastry chef, I just love to eat.  Always have.  Interestingly enough I discovered several years ago (through neccesity) that I have a talent for creating recipes.  My wife and I have been professional foodies for over 15 years through our corporate gift basket business that specialized in gourmet foods.  We always looked forward to going to the Fancy Food shows in NY & SF to find the best chocolates, cookies, snacks and goodies fromall over the world.  We discovered long ago that great food makes for great gifts, but this blog is not about selling gifts but about sharing our passion for what makes for an outstanding sweet treat.  I don’t have a huge sweet tooth, but when I want a treat, it had better the absolute best that I can find.

After the recession that hit after 9/11 many of our longtime vendors of cookies and chocolates started going downhill rather quickly.  Many changed their recipies to cheaper ingredients in response to rising costs.  Despite our plea’s for them to charge what ever they needed to keep their quality, they continued down that disappointing path.  When everyone else was cutting back we decided to move and start our own bakery.  Our only intention was to bake a wonderful chocolate chip cookie that once they fell in love with it they could only get it in one of our gift baskets.  You can make all the plans you want, but life has a way of taking over. Cranberry orange craves

In the coming weeks I will share the story of many of our favorite cookies and chocolates, how they came to be and even how you can use some of the tricks at home.  I welcome your feedback on what you like, dislike or would like to hear about.  I enjoy reading several blogs, but this is my first effort in giving back, so let me know if I am missing the boat on something.

Best Regards,  Robert Duensing

  1. RE: your comment about a summer cookie. One flavor immediately flew into my mind: Key Lime Pie. Or Key Limes in general. Tart, refreshing, wonderful!

  2. That would be a fun one to work on. We have a Margarita Tea Cookie (quite different from a traditional Key Lime Cookie), but it would be fun to experiment with both a key lime & margarita big soft cookie. I will add it to my to do list.
